Handwashing for the Mind

I feel like all of us have been bathed in increasing amounts of stress and vicarious trauma. There are so many factors including the factors that have increased the cost of living, the terrible atrocities, and the suffering we might have experienced alongside those we care for. I feel compelled to offer this now because I feel that we, as therapists, need this and that a world in which we might all be kinder and able to attend to each other is my dream.

What will we do?

Group Resourcing Protocl (G-Rep) is a very gentle form of EMDR that focusses on resourcing, rather than processing of trauma. That is, if we might imagine that our mind (and nervous system) are a garden and trauma is like weeds that has various roots (including long tap roots with lots of laterals!), when we resource, we focus on nourishing the soil, putting in some flower bulbs and maybe even smelling and delighting in the flowers in our garden.

What Happens on the Day?

We will have a small group of therapists and we will be seated at a table, because we will need this for the main worksheet we use for "bilateral stimulation" or tapping. Depending on the mood and energy of the group, we'll do some compassion exercises, some continuity of self exercises, and then the Group Resourcing Protocol. I suggest bringing a pen. I'll have a workbook for you.
